I was very hesitant to write this post. If you know me in person, I’m pretty modest so telling people about my experiences or giving them suggestions on what to do is kind of equivalent to bragging for me. But I overcame that feeling and did a video interview with Raghu from HappySchoools.com so that people can learn from my experience and make a better decisions.
Here is the video interview about my experience as an international student in University of Waterloo. The video is quite long (since I’m talkative a bit :P) but I shared everything I felt it would be helpful for prospective grad students.
Here’s a summary of what I talked in the video –
- Life in Canada
- Visa application process for Canada
- Why I applied to Canada and USA.
- Why did I chose Canada.
- Student life in University of Waterloo
- How I am able to handle the stress of studying masters in a field different from my undergrad major.
- Job opportunities in Canada.
- Why you shouldn’t do part time jobs during your time abroad.
Bear in mind all the above are purely my opinions. I am only sharing them so that someone might find it helpful. When I was a student in a three tier college in India, a place where faculty are a joke and most of them are directly recruited from the same college once they finished their final year, information like this was very very valuable. I had no shortage of motivation but there was no one to guide me or mentor me. So once I overcame those hurdles I decided to document stuff so it might be helpful for someone like me.
Why I am giving all this explanation ? When I showed this video to couple of my friends, their exact responses were
“Why don’t you do something useful with your time instead of this kind of rubbish ?”
“Man you need to stop bragging.”
“Dude its 76 mins long, who in right mind would want to watch it ?” (well this is true in some way but I’m talkative :P)
The rationale behind all my blog posts or such kind of video interviews is quite simple. Would I find this kind of information valuable when I was struggling for guidance ?
A few blog posts could impact someone’s life so much, at least I was greatly influenced by some, so just trying to give back and help everyone as much as I can.
