Today I am going to give you few simple tips that can really boost your GRE score
#1. Identify your weak areas :
Writing practice tests can be useless if you are not making any significant improvement in your scores and that can only done when you have identified the areas in which you are weak and making efforts to overcome them.
#2. Learn from your mistakes.
This is an another simple tip which can really make a big difference to your scores. Learn from your mistakes! For example, when I was preparing for GRE I used to do very simple and silly mistakes in quant which affected my score drastically, so here’s what I did : I made a note of each and every type of silly mistake I made and advised myself on how to avoid it in a journal (I don’t mean the exact question). After perusing this notes daily, after some time, when I came across the same type of question I previously didn’t get right, I recognized it easily and hence avoided it. It sounds so simple but it had an amazing result for me.
Like that make your own note of mistakes you did and do something for not repeating it again!
#3.Use your commute time.
Many of us spend a lot of time commuting. When I was in 3rd year of my B.Tech I had to spend 4 hours daily commuting (to and fro to college and to coaching centre) and mostly I travel by public transport , so instead of sitting idly I used flash cards(when i was alone) and audio tapes(when I was surrounded by my friends :P) to learn vocabulary which helped me very much, as I quickly learned all words required for GRE.
Likewise, make good use of your commute time.
#4. Stick to your study schedule.
This is the most important one. Make a study schedule and stick to it as much as you can. Many make study schedules but only few sticks to them. Its very easy to get distracted from your schedule. Just stick to your schedule and avoid unnecessary distractions.
You might get alluring invite from your friends to go to movie, during your study time and you may feel – “I will go to movies and will make it up next day”. If you can really make it up, then its alright otherwise you will end with messing up your schedule and may not score properly in your final exam.
I know its hard but to “To gain something, you have to lose something.” and lose your enjoyment and relaxed life style here.
#5. Be confident.
Okay, I am not the best person to advise you regarding confidence as I myself felt very nervous before exam and couldn’t sleep the previous day. So how did I do ? I ended up scoring just 317(v-156 q-161) 🙁 .I scored atleast 325 in Manhattan GRE practice tests which are actually a lot harder than the real GRE but I wasn’t able to utilize my full potential because of the stress and fear of exam . Take me as an example and do not repeat the mistake I did.
Remember GRE is all about “Testing you in Stress”.
